The challenge

A small team with significant operational experience in the contract catering sector had identified an existing business to purchase. A key consideration in securing the necessary finance was to identify the purchasing savings that could be made. The initial evaluation work was carried out by Acquire and the savings identified became integral to the financial projections within the business case.

Once the purchase was completed, our challenge was to ensure that the supplier savings we had identified were achieved or exceeded and that they were delivered at the earliest opportunity. Any supply chain changes also had to achieved with minimum disruption to the on-going operation of the business.

The solution

A phased plan was developed that took into consideration the large spend categories, the identified level of savings and opportunities for supplier rationalisation. The first phase was to assign suppliers and terms for the primary wholesalers that accounted for over half of the spend and also to assign our terms for all common suppliers. By doing this we ensured the delivery of purchasing savings across a significant spend area from day one. Phase two and three then dealt with the more complex areas that involved a level of supplier change and rationalisation.

The result

Over a 6 month period all identified supply areas had been reviewed and were delivering the purchasing savings that had originally been identified. An additional benefit was reduced administrative cost driven by the reduced and consolidated supply base.

We continue to be responsible for the ongoing management and evaluation of the purchasing solutions put in place to ensure they are consistently delivering the level of savings that were originally identified.
